The trick: the angle between the wind and the runway centreline tells you how much of the wind is headwind. Learn the table — no calculator needed:
• 15° → full wind • 30° → 7/8
• 45° → 3/4 • 60° → 1/2
• 75° → 1/4 • 90° → 0 (pure crosswind)
Worked example: wind 20 kt at 45° off the runway → headwind = 20 × 3/4 = 15 kt. If the wind is from behind the runway, the same table gives the tailwind.
How to play. Each round is 12 questions. Start in CADET — turn an angle into the headwind percentage (the table only). Move to PILOT when you can recite it — full headwind/tailwind problems with friendly wind speeds. When it's second nature, try TOWER — real ATC calls (runway + wind direction/speed), against the clock with a bonus when it's a tailwind. Beat the top 10 and you'll be invited to add your callsign to the leaderboard.
