Drift Angle
Created by pilot@gavingeorge.co.uk
Instructions ▾

The trick: Crosswind pushes you sideways. The faster you fly, the less it hurts.

mpm = TAS ÷ 60 (miles a minute — 120 kt → 2, 180 kt → 3)
Drift° ≈ crosswind ÷ mpm

Worked example: TAS 120 kt (mpm = 2), crosswind 10 kt → drift = 10 ÷ 2 = .

How to play. Each round is 12 questions. Start in CADET mode — straight crosswind divided by miles a minute. When that's automatic, move to PILOT for the full clock-rule problem (work the crosswind from the wind and the angle, then divide). When the trick is second nature, try TOWER — ATC gives you the full wind and your heading, against the clock with a bonus point. Beat the top 10 and you'll be invited to add your callsign to the leaderboard.
